The ShaneCam

This is the official announcement of the ShaneCam. You will find the last six shots taken by the ShaneCam in the pictures section. I purchased this camera about two years ago, but never really used it. I will let it run and see what happens...it even has a motion detector on it and it will be fun to use.

So, the glimpse into my psyche gets deeper...

UPDATE:

The ShaneCam has moved to Flickr.  Search for the tag “shanebirley” and you will see all of my ShaneCam photos.

If I Were A Dog...

I would be sicker than one. It is official, I am sick. I can't believe I am sick. It is amazing. So, what did I do today. I have taken it easy and have built another computer. I got some of the parts I had laying around and built a new server. It is running Windows Server 2003. It is pretty funky. Very XP-ish.

So, what did I do with the server? What have I built it for? For one, to play with and check it out, but secondly, I have set it up so that I can run my webcam. Yes, I know what kinds of things should run on a computer. So, I have got it set up to take a photo every hour and the last six photos are in the pictures section. So, check them out.

Off to get well.

Another Child Out In The World

Well, I built a computer today for a client. It is an amazing system with a lot of good stuff in it and it will serve them well. It is like giving a painless birth (if you don't count the cuts on my knuckles). I have created something that will live out there and provide years of service without too many problems...parts wear out, you know.

I build the system, teach it what it can do, give it some tools and then sent it on its way. I am a father in a way. Scary, but true in a bizarre, science fiction kind of way.

But, the thing is, now I feel un well. I came home and didn't feel too hot. It was like I picked something up in my travels. Anyway, off too bed.

The Day I Decide

Well, today was another day or writing and finishing some computer fixes. I did battle with a pesky virus infected machine but I was able to fight it back and kill all of its buddies. That is the funny thing about computer viruses, they are always with some buddy or two.

So, I met up with some friends for lunch and we all drank beer, wine, and then ate some good food. It was good to hang out with them. I worked on the same short story from yesterday. Anyway, off to bed. Until tomorrow...keep your stick on the ice.Tags: ,

Without Breaking Some Eggs

So, what do I say about today? I went into my uncles office today and did some documentation review with his tech guy and that was about it. I posted some poems...yesterday.

I guess, essentially, I didn't do a whole lot. I did work on a short story for a little while, but I had a headache, so, I didn't stare at the screen for too long.

OH, OH. I did write in my scribbler. I have these notebooks I write in every day I have something to put in there. I will eventually put them into electronic format. Anyway, there you go...nothing really juicy.

And Now, The Moment I Have Been Waiting For

Today, I worked on computers. But, it was not the only thing I accomplished. I watched a movie called The Goonies. I have seen the movie a few times, but when i was much younger. Now that I have seen it as an adult, here is what I thought. It was a distracting, silly, and utterly confused movie. It didn't know what kind of a film to be. It wanted to be everything to all ages. In the end, however, I am able to forgive it, since I thought a whole lot more of the film when I was a lot younger.

It is a film that touches on something all people want to have experienced as a child. Okay, most people. I think that deep down a lot of people want to have that "last adventure" before they become adults. The chance to do something great that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. To have that last gasp before entering into the real world -- whatever that is. We want to see that hidden world which is lost to all of us at some point in our lives. We grow up, we get old, we just plain want to get something out of life. Unfortunately, I don't think that the meaning of life is in the adult world. Stories like The Goonies, is the adventure we crave. We don't crave getting up, going to a job, and then coming home to go to bed. We want adventure. Silly films like the Goonies fill that gap. Things like Indiana Jones, Star Trek and Star Wars fill that gap. Anyway, it was interesting. I always wanted to be a Goonie.

Anyway, I also posted the One Minute Poems. Check them out and let me know what you think. Just remember, they were written in less than 60 seconds!Tags: ,

One Minute Poems

They are now up. I thought my last entry was a little long to announce such things, so, here -- I posted some of them up. I am sure there will be more to come. I just can't stop my pen at times -- especially my warm up activities which produce one minute poems.

I welcome any feedback too. I am sure some of these poems will grow and I would love to hear any advice or comments that you have. If you want to bash too, that is cool. All it will do is make me cry for hours like a little girl with a skinned knee.

Thanks!Tags: , ,
