Viagra Is Dangerous

Well, sports fans, it looks like Viagra causes blindness.

Pfizer is in talks with the Food and Drug Administration to update the label on Viagra, its blockbuster treatment for sexual dysfunction, to reflect cases of vision loss in a small number of patients, the company said Friday.

"Pfizer is in discussions with the Food and Drug Administration to update the Viagra label to reflect these rare ocular occurrences," the company said. "Viagra has a strong safety profile and remains an effective medication that benefits millions of people."

The FDA is investigating reports that Viagra may cause non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, according to Pfizer. The condition can cause vision loss, especially in people over 50.

How incredibly hilarious. I suppose if I were much older, I might not be so thrilled, but - wow. Apparently about 6,000 people a year go blind or suffer some type of vision problems after using Viagra. Something I won't ever take includes...

Someone Thinks I Am A "Star"

It was bound to happen. Someone believes me to be a star.

I have received a comment from someone in Venezuela who thinks I am "Shane" from that other site which shall remain nameless. But for anyone who believes I am a blonde female, they are sadly mistaken and in for a rude surprise. Did they not look at my photographs on Flickr? But, for anyone else concerned, I can assure you, I am not a star in that industry. I develop web communications strategies and nothing else!

Here is a rough translation from Babelfish.

It enchanted to me to discover that you have a page Web and that I can now see more of the world of shane of which veia before in the films with VHS format. If east mail or you arrives to you SHANE in person you do not ***reflx mng it and quizas you respond to me, but I congratulate to you and it enchants your style to me to make films is very original and too good, ojala could have a memory yours or so that not conocerte in person if you come sometimes to Venezuela, serious Guaaaaooo the maximum. I like muchisimo and as we say here to THESE BUENISIMA!!!!! I DO NOT CLEAR MAS TIME WELL TO YOU! EXITO And YOU DO NOT STOP BEING The BEST One!

It is unfortunate this individual (whose comment I deleted) thought I was someone who I am not. I find it quite hilarious that someone found my site and thought it was "her" site. How odd. I am clearly not female. I hope he posts a comment again and I will make sure he makes it to the appropriate site.

Anyone know what "guaaaaaooo" means? Actually, maybe, I don't want to know.

V'ger Continues It's Travels

Voyager 1 has reached the solar system's final frontier. Here it is from Reuters:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - NASA's Voyager 1 has reached the final frontier of our solar system, having traveled through a turbulent place where electrically charged particles from the Sun crash into thin gas from interstellar space.

Astronomers tracking the little spaceship's 26-year journey from Earth believe Voyager 1 has gone through a region known as termination shock, some 8.7 billion miles from the Sun, and entered an area called the heliosheath.

"Voyager 1 has entered the final lap on its race to the edge of interstellar space," Edward Stone, Voyager project scientist at the California Institute of Technology, said in a statement released on Tuesday.

Voyager watchers theorized last November that the craft might be reaching this bumpy region of space when the charged solar particles known as the solar wind seemed to slow down from a top speed of 1.5 million miles per hour.

This was expected at the area of termination shock, where the solar winds were expected to decelerate as they bump up against gas from the space beyond our solar system. It is more than twice as distant as Pluto, the furthest planet in our system.

By monitoring the craft's speed and the increase in the force of the solar wind, Voyager scientists now believe the craft has made it through the shock and into the heliosheath.

So, there we are friends. V'ger is well on its way to become one of the greatest artifical minds ever. I will be glad when it returns as a large spacecraft bent on destroying the carbon units on this planet.

Bloggin' It From The House

Hmmmm.

That is all I have to say about a Conservative MP blogging from the House.

Hmmm.

I may be the biggest blogging fan, but I don't know. I just don't know. It seems a little petty to blog from the House. He should really blog afterwards and talk a little more in detail rather than "we win" comments.

I had a horrible thought the other day, what if someone witnesses an accident and chooses to "blog it" and neglects any injured people? I wonder if that could happen? I fear that it very well could.

Hmmmm.

Does Anyone Here Speak English? Perhaps, Even Ancient Greek?

Indiana Jones 4 is coming in 2006. Should us fans be excited? Should we? Or should we sink into the realization that it just "won't be like old times"? I am just hoping Indiana Jones does become a "Lethal Weapon".

I miss Marcus Brody.

I Don't Like Flash, But Time Clocks Are Cool

Okay, yes, I don't like Flash overly much because of how unfriendly it is for web sites. Yes, it is pretty to look at but there are many problems with it.

  1. Search engines don't see it. So, building an entire site in Flash is a bad idea, unless you want to end up at ranking number 2,034,923,543,294,574,514 on any search engine.
  2. Bandwidth. The larger you make it, the less time people will hang around.

BUT, I saw this over on Wil Wheaton's blog and it is totally cool, Flash clock.

I Told You To Forget It, Uncle Owen

I received an e-mail today from a friend, horribly banished into the netherworld of London, Ontario, that said:

Uncle Owen lives in Washington state!!

http://www.philbrown.com/

I checked it out....toooooo cool! I have always wanted to know more about the actor behind Uncle Owen. I recall watching him in some other film and it did take me a little while during that viewing to realize who it was. He is a good actor.

A few minutes before the Phil Brown e-mail, I got this:

More Imperial hasbeens--er, "officers," with websites:

"This battlestation is now the ultimate power in the universe, I suggest we use it."
http://home.comcast.net/~webchief/

"There are so many, uncharted settlements."
http://www.michaelsheard.com/

I suppose I would do the same thing. If I were a character from the Star Wars universe, I would use that to make sure people knew who I was. But, then again, it seems sad that the only way one can distinguish one's self amongst the millions of actors in Hollywood (aren't they all actors down there?) is to make sure you capitalize on the single role that people would know?

Hmmm.

Or you could just buy a copy since it is a really good book and it has loads of great information for those of you out there who want to jump into blogging because it is fun and exciting.

podcasting

What else do I do? I talk out loud, record it, and post it on line. I chatter about all kinds of things. Some of the things are nerdy, some professional, and some of them are very much NSFW. Why? Because do them for myself and my non-work life. You can be the judge.

events

I do a little traveling here and there for technology conferences and what not. Here are the ones I am going to next or have attended recently.
