Star Trek Returns in 2008
A friend from the Victorian Sector, a Dilithium miner, let me know about this new development at Paramount. It appears the Star Trek franchise will return in 2008 - with a story about Kirk and Spock from their first meeting until the end of their first space adventure.
U.S. director J.J. Abrams is set to revive the Star Trek franchise, according to industry paper Variety.
Abrams, creator of TV hits Lost, Alias and Felicity, and director of the upcoming Mission Impossible III, will bring the as-yet-untitled project to theatres in 2008.
The new project, which will be the 11th instalment of the popular film series, will reportedly return to the origins of classic Trek characters James T. Kirk and Spock, originally portrayed by William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy.
The movie will follow how the two characters met at Starfleet Academy and their first space assignment together.

New Pug Dog Owners
It is official. We are now dog owners. We purchased this little cute Pug puppy today and have need to find a name for her. We are taking suggestions! We have been wanting a dog for quite some time now (three years or so) but our previous landlords were not in favour of pet ownership for their tenants. But our new landlords insisted we acquire a pet (thanks, Mom and Dad for becoming our new lords of our wee bit of land).
More pictures later but I hope she will give everyone kisses in the near future. We need to start some puppy proofing. Any tips for new dog owners?
And a special thanks goes out to Diane who is the web master of a great Pug dog website called Pugs on the Beach.
Oh, and, why a Pug? It's small and has a pathetic bark which will make our neighbours happy. Also, she is damn cute and has that "Yoda-Gremlin" look going on.

Why Does The Globe and Mail Have Google Ads?
I was just on the Globe and Mail today and noted they are using Google Ads on their site. This strikes me as somewhat odd.
I see Google contextual advertising as a source of revenue for those who wish to reap a little money from their content - but normally, those who are using the service are not already funded.
So, is the Globe and Mail not making any money? Are they not selling their own advertising?

Interview With George Takei
I have been hanging out on Google Video quite a bit these past weeks. There is a lot of content one can't find anywhere else and I am impressed how organized and simple the system is to use.

But, being the nerd I am, I found a great interview with George Takei conducted in late 2004. He talks about his life, his career and everything in between. And, dammit, I have been pronouncing his name wrong since - well, forever.
UPDATE:
There are more interviews from the Archive of American Television. These interviews are from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
