Canadian Goverment Interferes With Goverment Committees

I just saw this over on Tod Maffin's Todbits web site.  I was horrified about this little shard of information about the Canadian government is running itself like it is a corporation and not like a government.  Sure, they are similar in their structure - but wow.  See for yourself.

For Mount Pleasant Residents: The Community Centre Update

For those of you who live in the Mount Pleasant area, I have some good news and some bad news. The new Mt. Pleasant Community Centre was that was going to open this summer is experiencing some delays.. We've been watching this development grow and have been excited in the knowledge that our community centre was going to be only a few blocks from our place.  We e-mailed the city to find out what was going on and they responded with a "delay notice".

It looks like we are all going to have to wait until next summer. 2008. Ah, well. I guess heading up to 15th isn't all that bad. We just have an aging community centre that has out grown its particular facility (at least, in my opinion) and little money appears to be funding the maintenance of the facility due to the new building being constructed.  I may be wrong, of course, as I don't know the inner workings of the parks department - it is only my fear.  I have a lot of that going around these days.

Down with fear - and open my new community centre!

The Police In Vancouver

The Police are coming to Vancouver next week and I will be attending the show on Wednesday night. I have not gone to a live musical performance like this since Dave Matthews was in town a number of years ago - and, yikes, was he boring on stage. He was lifeless standing in front of his microphone and singing. Many performers are able to make that exciting and interesting but he was just going through the motions. One knows there is a problem with a performer when one of their band mates is more entertaining.

This is my apprehension about this coming Wednesday. I wish to be entertained but fear, like most of my experiences at a live musical performance (with the exception of chamber music and recitals, I don't know why, it is just "my thing") that I am going to suffer through some level of boredom.

I mean, really, it is The Police! Sting! How could that ever get boring? I am going with friends and I hope this will help my fear to dissipate. But I am feeling like a dork for feeling as though the performance will be less than exciting.

How can one prevent this? Does anyone have any tips for me to "get into the spirit" of watching The Police?  You have until next week to save me.

Darth Vader Had Borderline Personality Disorder

According to WebMD, Anakin Skywalker has borderline personality disorder.  This is a kind of disorder when an individual has an extreme view of the world - all things are either black or white.

Anakin Skywalker, the Star Wars character who became Darth Vader, had borderline personality disorder, psychiatrists report.

The news comes not from a galaxy far, far away, but from San Diego, where the American Psychiatric Association (APA) is holding its 160th annual meeting.

Experts from the psychiatric department at France's University Hospital of Toulouse told the APA's annual meeting that Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader could "clearly" be diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.

Borderline personality disorder is a serious mental illness marked by instability in moods, interpersonal relationships, self-image, and behavior, according to background information on the Web site of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).

The French psychiatrists — who included Laurent Schmitt, M.D. — based their diagnosis on original Star Wars film scripts.

I wonder where the psychologists in the Star Wars universe live.  Those are Jedi, aren't they?  I suppose those archives in the Jedi Academy could have provided some information about his personality.  But, hey, I suppose they don't seem to have much experience when they are controlling other people's minds.

Can't Stop The Serenity Screening

A short post about the next screening of Serenity for the Can't Stop The Serenity Equality Now fund raiser.  Last year, over $60,000USD was raised.  I am going to do my part and, hopefully, win some of those door prizes.  It is being held at Pacific Cinematheque on June 23rd, 2007 in the afternoon.  Check out their site for more information.

The Gummi Bears Theme Song: Reliving The Past

I was talking to a couple of friends the other day about television programs they watched as kids.  The one I remember the most fondly was The Gummi Bears.  The Gummi Bears are quite possibly the best show I watched when I was a pre-teen.  The show had my attention from the beginning.  I watched and wanted to live where the Gummi Bears existed (then girls were discovered and all was lost) and, when I matured into an adult (yes, it did happen) I always believed it was one of the most creative shows out there.  The thought of living in underground tunnels complete with incredibly fast vehicles always appealed to me.  Perhaps I may wish to live underground someday.  I hear there are underground homes that do exist.

I dare you to play this theme song several times and NOT start to sing it tomorrow morning when you least suspect it.

Build Your Own AT-AT Out of Paper

I was zooming around Digg today and noticed a comment about a site that has plans (no, not Death Star plans) to build your own paper AT-AT.  I am amazed!  Who wants to build one with me?
