A Vancouver Blogger I Be, Says I
If you’re a blogger, a geek, a nerd, or just like to read what people are having for lunch these days, perhaps you’ll notice there is a wee blogger war going on.
I just want to say that this “war” is all in good fun. Why do I feel I need to “put this out there”? I got an e-mail a couple of days ago that wanted to join my “empire of blogging evil”.
This is NOT so. I am not evil.
The Vancouver Blogger War is more of a contest. Like most contests, they are quick, fast – but what I have learned about blogging is that you need to sustain. You need to take your time. You need to look at the big picture and dig in for a long haul. This is, by far, the best way to gain any type of blogging notice in the static of the Internet.
Thus, are you ready to step up? Join the Evil Blogging Empire. Vancouver blogging needs you in its ranks. Let’s take over and rule the Vancouver blogging air waves and bring order to the Internet in Vancouver.

Kaya Fraser Releases Her Album Tremor And Slip
I have been meaning to do this for a week or so, but Kaya Fraser (yah, we do her web site, of course!) sent along a copy of her new album to us! We’d already had a preview with some MP3 files she sent us but now I get to listen to the album as a whole – which is always the way you should listen to music. Here is a bit from her web site:
Wise beyond their writer’s years, Kaya Fraser’s songs search out the dark corners of the heart, illuminating them with lightning-flashes of clarity. Her brand of literate folk-pop recalls Joni Mitchell and Ron Sexsmith in its lyrical eloquence, while musically it draws on elements of roots, R&B and jazz to create infectious melodies and compelling grooves. Kaya’s influences are many and varied, from folk icons like Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, to pop songwriters such as Lennon and McCartney and Aimee Mann. Her songs are carefully crafted and soulfully performed, not unlike those of fellow Canadians Sarah McLachlan, Leslie Feist or Sarah Harmer.
If you are interested in purchasing a copy, check out her web site for more details. You rock, Kaya!
Vancouver Blogger War: It Is On, My Young Apprentices
My young apprentices, I see you wish to start a Vancouver Blogger War. I accept. As a Vancouver blogger, my rank was once legendary. It was talked about in hushed tones as not to arouse my anger and sink pitiful little bands into Google oblivion!
And then, my kind were slaughtered – de-ranked, you might say. I grew careless and I fell out of blogging on a regular basis. The line of the Vancouver Empire Bloggers was broken. But, I lay only in wait. I sought reason for a higher rank. I needed to be reborn but I lacked the will to go on. But today, I became overwhelmed with an absolute resolution that I must reclaim my Vancouver blogger throne.
Thus, this so-called Vancouver blog war, will be met with the full power of this armed and fully operational Vancouver-based blog. I shall quash your Rebellion with one swift stroke!
Oh, and, go buy my book.
Obey The Pug
If you know us, you will know that we have a Pug. Her name is Serendipity and she is adorable. It was brought to my attention today that I may be under her explicit control. Now, any dog owner will tell you, the dog rules your life. If you have no other dependents to take care of – the dog will dominate. This is very true of our home as she dictates much of our daily activities. I had a suspicion we were under her paw but I know this is the truth, according to the Obey The Pug shirts I will need to get.

Check out Obey The Purebreed web site. I has some hilarious dog posters, shirts and all that stuff. I may have to get a few shirts from there.

Lego Is 50 Years Old
Wow, I had no idea that Lego was turning fifty today and I am nostalgic as hell. Lego was one of my favourite toys as a child and it still remains fairly damn high on things I like to do.
So, I am happy to report that the next Indiana Jones film has a line of Indiana Jones Lego. I see myself shelling out a lot of money for Lego in the next twelve months. I can’t resist! I want it! I also have noticed they are doing a Lego-based game.
I grew up with Lego. Lego in the bathtub. Lego on the floor. Lego in the bed. Lego got everywhere. When I was younger, I was always building submarines and boats and then taking them into the bath. I remember I wasn’t able to float them (standard Lego bricks aren’t exactly water tight) - but, hey, they did the job and I had a blast. I was able to submerge my snorkel on (yes, still in the bathtub) and watch them as I moved them about in the water getting into all kinds of adventures. Now that I think about it, it may have looked incredibly strange.
Later on, I was into building space vehicles and, when the Space Lego hit the market, I must have I was addicted. If Lego was crack, I would have been one of the hardest addicts to treat. I suppose “those were the days”. Wait, screw that, I want to go and gather up my lego right now. Space Lego is my favourite line of Lego.
As a matter of fact, I think my parents have kept my lego collection in a large trunk at their place in the hopes I will breed and bring them grandchildren or come and play with my Lego again. I also suspect there will be some additional Indiana Jones posts coming soon – May 2008 is only so far away.

The Church of Jedi

It was bound to happen but The Church of Jedi is now officially a religion – at least, in Wales.
A Jedi "church" has been born in a galaxy far far away - North Wales.
The Holyhead chapter of the self-styled Jedi Church, which claims up to 400,000 members worldwide, has sprung up thanks to brothers Barney and Daniel Jones, both Star Wars obsessives.
The "church" is only one of a handful around the planet, said hairdresser Barney, 26, the Anglesey Order Minister, also known as Master Jonba Hehol.
It all started with the 2001 census in the UK.
"Some people think it will be quite interesting but lots of people will ridicule us because it seems quite nerdy but we've had a good reaction so far," he said.
"We think of it as proper lifestyle enhancement and it should be taken seriously - it can't be bad if it makes life better.
"We live normal day-to-day lives.
"We are trying to take away the humour of it all and bring more structure so people take it more seriously."
The "religion" was born as a result of a nationwide joke in the 2001 census when nearly 400,000 claimed their belief system was Jedi.
I think I am going to sign up and get my official Jedi card. Anyone else? Check out the full story.

My Blogging For Dummies Books Arrived!
I got a nice little surprise today – my books arrived! I love books and getting a book I helped write is a very different feeling. This book is packed with all new and very cool information and you should go buy one today. Oh, what’s that? You want one? Well, I only got a few of them.
Now, who do I give these away to? Should I hold a contest? Should I give them away to family and friends? What about those types of people that may actually read it? I can’t just give these books to people who will place them on a shelf and never read it. These babies need to be cracked open and read with delight! They demand to be read! More information, updated, crazy awesomeness abounds within these covers! Are you one of those types of people?
Or should I keep them all to myself. The internal devil in me wants to horde them – muhahaha!
