Save The Beacon Hill Children's Farm

The Beacon Hill Children's Farm (better known as the Beacon Hill Petting Zoo) was threatened earlier this month with lease changes that could close the facility. This should not be allowed to happen and, it appears, disaster has been averted or, at the very least, it has been brought to Facebook's attention. We all know what happens when Facebook gets involved. Governments quake! They fear the uprising! And private enterprise jumps in to save the day.
I can't believe the reaction I had when I heard this was a very real possibility of closure to one of the most memorable places I can think of in Beacon Hill Park. I wonder what Victoria City Hall has been thinking? Or not, as it seems. I grew up in Victoria and the petting zoo (like the Victoria Bug Zoo) is etched into my memory as one of the non-disappearing type of fixtures.
The park has a lot of memories in it that I am not willing to give up for anything - especially the park. Bunch of crazies over there in that hall of the city.

Raiders: The Adaptation In Vancouver
I got an e-mail from Jason Kurylo a week or so ago in response to my Indiana Jones posts over the last few months. (Sorry, Jason, I haven't had a moment to respond to you directly!) He has pointed out that Raiders: The Adaptation is coming to Park Theatre on May 2nd, 2008. For those of you who don't know, Raiders: The Adaptation is a fanboy remake of the first Indiana Jones film. I haven't seen it but from what I have read about it over the last year or so is that it is a shot-for-shot fan version of the original Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was filmed over a number of years (started in 1982) and when it was rediscovered by the makers in 2003, it was released to the film festivals. Spielberg even praised the work they put into it considering they were only twelve when they started.
It is an event raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society and I am going to try and check it out. I hope tickets are still available. Anyone interested in tagging along?
