Date

We've had one of "those days" today.

Got up this morning, showered, headed to the office, got a lot of work done, then came home to relax a bit and ready ourselves for tomorrow. A typical day for us.

Then we got one of those rare calls (at least, they should be rare) and learned of a family member with a serious illness. Everything stops. Thinking about what will need to be done tomorrow, what kinds of holidays we should be thinking about for the summer, what to eat for dinner - it all melts away somehow.

How do you react? How are you supposed to react? I always find it difficult to deal with serious illness and the reality of death - not because it is scary or dwells in some realm of fear - but because, for some reason, I accepted it would be a reality for me in the future. I suppose I don't think of death as the end or some kind of mythic door into another plane of existence but I think of it as an eventual experience we all will take.

Illness, on the other hand, is not so fun or we're not able to process it in the same way. It just sucks because no one is equal in these situations. Does that make sense? I read what I just typed out and I don't think I understand what I mean in a logical sense but I know what I mean at a gut level. I guess what I am struggling with is not death - but the process of it. Anyway, enough of this stream of my mental musings.

I hate these kinds of days. Puts everything into a type of perspective that I don't see all that often...or want to see more than once a decade.

podcasting

What else do I do? I talk out loud, record it, and post it on line. I chatter about all kinds of things. Some of the things are nerdy, some professional, and some of them are very much NSFW. Why? Because do them for myself and my non-work life. You can be the judge.
